2026 Statewide COMMEX April 11

There will be an ARES/ RACES statewide Communication Exercise COMMEX on Saturday, April 11, 2026. SCEMD has requested the use of the SCHEART repeater system in supporting this exercise. The Awendaw VHF repeater will be supporting a local bike ride and will not be linked into the statewide network. Stations in that area should use the Awendaw UHF repeater. Statewide nets are planned at 0900 and 1300. When nets are not in progress, the SCHEART system will be open for regular amateur use. However, please keep your transmissions short and allow breaks for any exercise traffic. The SCHEART DMR system will also be emergency mode during the exercise.

The exercise scenario covers multiple wild fires happening around the state due to an extended drought. The fires have impacted connectivity of power and communications. Stations supporting Counties and Healthcare facilities will be testing alternate communication systems in addition to the SCHEART network to carry situational reports and simulated resource requests. Amateur operators not active in the ARES or RACES organization are welcome to participate in the exercise and test their equipment and skills.
